Viewing test cases

You can view read-only test case information without preventing other users from editing the test case at the same time. You can also generate manual test runs, send email, and enter test case events.

1. In the Test Cases list, click the test case number or summary.

The Viewing Test Case page opens.

Note:  Icons or messages may indicate the item is locked or marked as suspect. See About item status indicators.

  • The left pane displays the read-only Status, and General, Custom Fields, Included Variant Values, and Excluded Variants values. The available fields and grouping depends on how Helix ALM is configured for your team. To learn more, see Configuring field layouts.
    • To scroll to a field group, click Scroll to and select a field group.
    • To expand a field group, click . To collapse a group, click . To expand all groups, click . To collapse all groups, click .
    • If information is available about a field group, mouse over to display a tooltip.
  • The right pane displays the following tabs:

Manual Test Runs Manual test runs generated for the test case. You can view manual test runs in a detailed list or a graphical overview organized by status (Waiting, In Progress, and Completed). Viewing manual test run status
Email Email sent about the test case. You can reply to email. Only available if email tracking is enabled for the project. Viewing email and Replying to email
Traceability Items linked to the test case and options to perform impact analysis. You can add, edit, and delete links, mark linked items as suspect to indicate they may be impacted by changes, and investigate suspect dependencies. You may also view the impact analysis graphically. Folders Folders the test case is included in. You can add the test case to other folders, move it to different folders, or remove it from folders. You cannot add or move the test case to public folders you do not have permission to modify or are locked, or locked private folders. You cannot remove the test case from locked folders. Baselines Baselines the test case is in. You can view the test case as it was when added to the baseline, view differences between the current test case and test case in the baseline, and view differences between the test case in two baselines. Working with baselines from items
History Historical information about the test case, such as when it was created, when it was last modified, and all actions performed on it. Viewing item history

2. Click Edit to edit the test case. See Editing test cases.

3. Click Actions and choose Manual Test Runs to generate manual test runs.

Manual test runs contain all information from the related test case, but also include the results of a specific instance of the test. See Generating manual test runs.

4. Click Watch to be notified every time the test case changes. See Watching items to be notified about changes.

5. Perform any additional actions.

  • To move the test case through the workflow, click a workflow event button. For example, click Assign to assign it to another team member. Click More to see additional events. See Adding workflow events to items.
  • To perform various actions on the test case, click Actions and choose an action.
  • To run a report that includes information about the test case, click the Reports button and choose a report. See Running reports.
  • To send email about the test case, click the Email button and choose an option. See Emailing from Helix ALM.
