Share comments
You can create direct links to comments and replies in a review. Sharing a direct link makes it easier for other users to locate a specific discussion without searching through the review.
To copy a link to a comment or reply:
-
Open a review and locate the comment or reply.
-
Click the Link icon in the comment action bar. The direct link is copied to your clipboard.
-
Paste the link into an email, chat message, ticket, or other document.
When a user opens the link, P4 Code Review navigates directly to the selected comment or reply and highlights it.
Direct links can be created for:
-
Review comments
-
File comments
-
Line comments
-
Comment replies
Comment links are supported in Default View only.
React to comments
You can react to comments using emojis. For a list of supported emojis, see the Emoji Cheat Sheet.
To add a reaction:
-
Click the emoji icon beneath the comment.
-
Select an emoji.
A notification is sent to the author of the comment when a reaction is added.
To use the same reaction as another user, click the existing emoji attached to the comment.
To remove a reaction, click the emoji again.
Links in comments
URLs included in comments are automatically converted into links.
If a link points to an image or a YouTube video, the content is displayed at the end of the comment.
For information about linking images and videos, see Common text styles.
Comment context
When comments are added to modified lines in a review, P4 Code Review records several lines of surrounding context. This helps preserve the meaning of comments if later revisions change or remove the original lines.
Each comment stores its own context information, but only the first comment on a line displays the captured context.
Checklists
If checklists are available for a review, you can update the status of a checklist item when posting a comment.
If no checklists are applied to the review, checklist options are not displayed.
To update a checklist item using a comment:
-
Open the Comments tab.
-
Enter your comment.
-
Select a checklist item from the drop-down list beneath the comment field.
-
Select a status for the checklist item.
-
Click Add.
A tag is added to the comment to show the associated checklist item.
If you select a status that blocks approval, such as Fail or Error, a blocking notification is displayed on the review and the review cannot be approved until the issue is resolved. To learn more about checklists and blocking statuses, see Checklist item status
