Adding folder types

Add a folder type when you want to differentiate folder appearance and functionality. Users can select a folder type when creating folders or changing the type for existing folders. See Adding folders.

Note:  New projects contain default folder types, which you can edit, delete, or inactivate. See Default folder types. A project must include at least one folder type.

1. Click Administration.

The Admin Home page opens.

2. Click Folder Types.

The Folder Types page opens.

3. Click Add.

The Add Folder Type page opens.

4. Enter a Name and Description.

5. Select the Closed folder icon and Open folder icon. Click Browse to select the files or drag the files to the icon area. To remove an icon, click Remove.

Note:  Icons are available in the workflowicons directory in the Helix ALM application directory (server installations only) . You can also use custom icons, which must be 16x16, 24x24, or 32x32 pixels in BMP, GIF, or PNG format.

6. Select any Folder Options to specify the fields available when adding folders and information to display when this folder type is open in the Folders list. See Using the Folders list.

  • Enable Release Planning enables release planning fields, which display release schedule information for a folder. See Entering release planning information for folders.
  • Enable Notes enables a Notes field, which can be used to display additional information about folders. See Editing folder details.
  • Enable Web View enables a field to enter the URL for a web page related to the folder. In the Helix ALM desktop client, the web page is displayed on the Web View pane in the Folders list window. In the web client, a link to the page is displayed on the Details tab in the Folders list. See Editing folder details.
  • Enable task boards enables displaying task boards for the folder type. See Using task boards. Select a Default task board to display for the folder type. The list includes all task boards available in the project. Select <not set> if you do not want to set a default task board.

7. Click Save to add the folder type.
