Create a workspace for collaboration using settings from an existing P4 workspace

In P4 One, each project has its own folder where you store files and subfolders related to the project. This folder is a workspace. For example, a workspace may contain a 3D scene with hundreds of textures and scene files, or a 2D project with one file.

You must create a workspace before you start working files in P4 One.

You can create a new workspace connected to the same depot, and with the same views and options set on an existing P4 workspace.

To use an existing P4 workspace with P4 One, follow the steps in Use an existing P4 workspace for collaboration. If you are working on a new project independently and not collaborating, follow the steps in Create a workspace for yourself.
  1. In the navigation pane, under Workspaces, click Create.

  2. In the Create a workspace dialog box, click For collaboration.

  3. Click Create a workspace from an existing one.

  4. In the Connect to P4 dialog box, select the P4 connection that contains the existing workspace.

    • If the P4 connection is not available in the list, click Add to add a new connection. Enter the information provided by your P4 administrator and then click Sign in:

      • Server address:P4 Server address and port. Example: ssl:files.wysicorp.com:1666.
      • Username: Your P4 username.
      • Password: Your P4 password (required). To log in using single sign-on (SSO), click Sign in with SSO. The Password field is hidden. To switch back to using a password, click Sign in with password.
    • If you are not connected to the selected P4 connection, you are prompted to sign in. Enter your credentials and click Sign in. To sign in using single sign-on (SSO), click Sign in with SSO.

  5. Click Continue.

  6. Select an Existing workspace to create the new workspace from.

  7. The Workspace Name field contains an automatically-generated name. You can change the name to uniquely identify your project. To get a new generated name, click the refresh button. The workspace name is used as the workspace folder name in the Workspace Path field.

  8. In the Workspace Path field, a default path for the workspace on your computer is displayed. You can enter a different location or click the browse files button to select a different location.

If you do not want to include the workspace name in the path, clear Include workspace name in path.

Do not store workspaces in a cloud storage service, such as OneDrive or Google Drive because you can experience performance issues.
  9. Click Create Workspace.

The workspace is created on your computer and opens in P4 One. The new workspace is also displayed in the Recent Workspaces list in the navigation pane.

A .p4one hidden folder and a few configurations are now in the root folder of the workspace folder to facilitate communication with P4 Server.
