Create a workspace connected to a P4 Server

In P4 One, each project has its own folder where you store files and subfolders related to the project. This folder is a workspace. For example, a workspace may contain a 3D scene with hundreds of textures and scene files, or a 2D project with one file.

You must create a workspace before you start working files in P4 One.

If you are working locally in P4 One and are not connecting to a P4 Server, follow the steps in Create a workspace connected to a P4 Server to create a workspace.

The steps you follow depend on if you have existing P4 One or P4 workspaces.

Project is stored on a P4 Server and you do not have an existing P4 One or P4 workspace

Follow these steps if the project you need to work on is already stored on a P4 Server, but you do not have an existing P4 One or P4 workspace for it.

These steps only work if the existing project is stored in a P4 stream depot.
  1. In the navigation pane, under Workspace, click Create.

  2. In the Create Workspace dialog box, in the Workspace Path field, a default path for the workspace on your computer is displayed. You can enter a different location or click the browse files button to select a different location.

Do not store workspaces in a cloud storage service, such as OneDrive or Google Drive because you may experience performance issues.
  3. The Workspace Name field contains an automatically-generated name. You can change the name to uniquely identify your project. To get a new generated name, click the refresh button. The workspace name is used as the workspace folder name in the Workspace Path field.

  4. Select Connect to P4 Server.

  5. Check the Server and User to make sure you are connected to the correct P4 Server using the correct P4 user.

    • To change the server or user, click Edit Connection Settings and continue with step 6.

    • If the server and user are correct, skip steps 6 and 7, and continue with step 8.

  6. In the Sign in to a different user dialog box, enter the following information. If you do not know the information, ask your P4 administrator for help.

    • Server address:P4 Server address and port. Example: ssl:files.wysicorp.com:1666.
    • Username: Your P4 username.
    • Password: Your P4 password. To log in using single sign-on (SSO), click Sign in with SSO. The Password field is hidden. To switch back to using a password, click Sign in with password.
  7. Click Sign in to connect to the server.
  8. Select the Depot and Stream on the P4 Server that contains the project files. If you do not know the depot or stream, ask another team member or your P4 administrator for help.

  9. Click Create Workspace.

The workspace is created on your computer and opens in P4 One. The new workspace is also displayed in the Recent Workspaces list in the navigation pane.

Project is stored on a P4 Server and you have an existing P4 workspace

Follow these steps if the project you need to work on is already stored on a P4 Server and you have an existing P4 workspace for it. For example, if you previously worked on the project from P4V, you have a workspace for it.

After completing the steps, you can use the workspace for your project whether you are working in P4 One or another P4 client, such as P4V.

  1. Make sure P4 One is connected to the P4 Server that contains the project. If it is not, follow the steps in Add a P4 Server connection.

  2. In P4 One, navigate to the existing P4 workspace folder on your computer. You can copy the path into the address bar or click the local drive under Volumes in the navigation pane and browse for the workspace folder.

  3. Right-click the folder and choose Create Workspace "<Workspace Name>".

  4. In the Create Workspace dialog box, a message is displayed that P4 One is connected to the existing P4 workspace.

  5. Click Initialize P4 One.

The workspace is updated for use with P4 One. A .p4one folder is added to the workspace folder. This folder is not visible in P4 One. The files in the workspace are displayed in the file view.
