Create a workspace in Helix Sync
A workspace is a local folder on your computer that stores a copy of the assets on your company's Helix Core Server. Your workspace is stored in a folder on your computer where you do your work. Helix Sync regularly checks the files and folders in your workspace against the Helix Core Server and shows both your changes and changes made by other users. You can upload your changes to the Helix Core Server and download changes made by other users to your local workspace folder. You can have more than one workspace on your computer. For example, you may have a workspace for each of your projects.
When Helix Sync is logged in to Helix Core, Helix Sync can create a workspace for assets stored in existing Helix Core Server mainline streams.
-
Open Helix Sync and log in to Helix Core Server. See Log in to Helix Sync
-
From the My workspaces list, click + Create workspace.
The Create workspace dialog opens.
-
Enter the Workspace name to use for the workspace.
The Workspace name is optional, if you leave it blank, the path to the local folder the workspace is stored in is used for the workspace name.
-
Select the Helix Core depot the stream is in.
All of the depots you have permission to view are displayed in the dropdown.
-
Select the Helix Core Stream to use for the workspace.
All of the streams you have permission to view are displayed in the dropdown.
-
Click Select local folder to open your default file browser and select a local folder to store your workspace in.
You are returned to the Create workspace dialog.
-
Click Create.
The workspace is created and the local folder is automatically populated with the files from the selected Helix Core Server stream.
TipIt can take some time to populate your workspace, especially if the assets are large or there are many assets.
