Auto-identification of referenced assets

Some assets rely on other files to work correctly. For example, a 3D asset might need texture, animation, and rigging files. For some file types in P4 DAM, these referenced files are identified automatically. For supported file types, see 3D model generation in P4 Search Documentation.

Automatic identification of referenced assets requires P4 Render 2025.4 or later.

View the referenced files for an asset

Open the asset and click Links. If the right panel is hidden, click the Show right panel button at the bottom of the panel.

A list of referenced files for the asset is shown. If any of the referenced files are missing from P4 DAM, you can add them manually. See Add missing referenced files to an asset.

You can create an asset bundle for the asset and its referenced files to make them easier to manage. See Create a bundle from an asset and its referenced files.

Add missing referenced files to an asset

P4 DAM automatically identifies which referenced files are missing from an asset, but you must manually add them to P4 DAM.

  1. Open the asset and click Links.

Missing files are shown in a list below the list of referenced files.

If the right panel is hidden, click the Show right panel button at the bottom of the panel.

  2. From the Missing files list, click Add file next to the file to add.

    Your local file explorer opens.

  3. Locate the missing file to add and click Open. The filename you choose must match the filename identified by P4 DAM. Only one file can be selected.

The file is added to the list of referenced files for the asset.

If multiple files from the same folder are missing, consider uploading them directly to the asset collection page. See Add assets to collections.

Create a bundle from an asset and its referenced files

  1. Open the asset and click Links.

If the right panel is hidden, click the Show right panel button at the bottom of the panel.

  2. In the Manage all the referenced files together box, click Create asset bundle.

  3. Follow the steps in Create an asset bundle.

By default, the bundle includes only the asset and its referenced files. If any referenced files are missing, the paths to these files are included. See Path view.
