Editing system fields

System fields are available by default in every Helix ALM project. You can edit some properties of system fields. For example, you can set the default field value or indicate if a system field is required.

1. Click Administration.

The Admin Home page opens.

2. Click System Fields.

The System Fields page opens.

3. Select an Item type.

4. Select a field and click Edit. You can also click the field name.

The Edit System Field page opens.

5. Make any changes. The available options depend on the field type.

  • You cannot change the following fields: Name, Long label, Field code, and Field type. If the field label can be changed, click Rename Field next to the field name to change it. See Renaming field labels. You also cannot change the required setting for the test case Automated Test field or the default value for the test case Estimated Run Time field.
  • If you are editing a requirement field, see Configuring default values and required options for requirement fields based on requirement type for information about the impact of making changes to the Default Values and Required Settings.
  • System fields with dropdown lists do not allow users to select multiple values.

6. Click Save to save the changes.
