Integrate Perforce ALM with Jira

Perforce ALM integrates with Atlassian Jira. You can work with Jira items from the ALM desktop and web clients, which is enabled by configuring the Jira integration. You can also work with ALM items from Jira, which is enabled by configuring both the Jira integration in ALM and Perforce ALM for Jira app app in Jira.

Work with Jira items in ALM using the Jira integration

In ALM, you can attach Jira items to ALM items to indicate that the items are related. You can also create Jira items from ALM and automatically attach them to ALM items. To do this, the Jira integration must be configured in ALM.

In most cases, teams use the Jira integration when they work with other teams who track items in Jira. For example, the QA team may use ALM for test case management and the development team may use Jira for bug tracking. When a test fails, a tester can create a new Jira item from the ALM manual test run. A developer can then view the item in Jira and fix it. Teams may also attach Jira tasks to ALM requirements to show that the items are related across the applications.

Attaching a Jira item to an ALM item creates an association between them. All information is stored in Jira. The type, ID, summary, and status are displayed in the related ALM item. You can easily open a Jira item from a ALM item to view it.

Work with ALM items in Jira using the Perforce ALM for Jira app

In Jira, you can view ALM items that Jira items are attached to and add new ALM items that are automatically attached to the Jira items they were added from. To do this, the Perforce ALM for Jira app must be configured.

Get started with the Jira integration

Administrators

Before users can work with Jira items in ALM, an administrative user or another user with high-level security permissions must configure security and the integration using the Perforce ALM desktop client.

Users

To start working with Jira items in ALM, you first need to enter your Jira credentials. See Configure Jira integration settings.

After the app is configured by your administrator, you can view information about ALM items in Jira items and open the Jira items in the ALM web client to see more details.
