Creating Jira issues from Helix ALM

You can create new Jira issues from Helix ALM and automatically attach them to the Helix ALM items they were created from. This makes it easy to create an issue without switching to Jira and to make sure the issue is attached to the related Helix ALM item so other team members have the information they need.

For example, if you are performing a Helix ALM manual test run and a problem occurs, you can create a Jira issue from the manual test run. When you save the issue, it is added to Jira and automatically attached to the Helix ALM manual test run.

You can also open Jira's Create Issue page from Helix ALM. Click Open Jira when working with an item or click Actions and choose Open Jira.

1. Click the Jira Issues tab when you are working with an item.

You can also select an item in an item list and click Actions and choose Create Jira Issue.

2. Click Create Jira Issue.

The Create Jira Issue dialog box opens.

3. Select the Jira Project to create the issue in.

The available projects depend on the integration settings for the Helix ALM project and your Jira permissions. If only one project is available, it is automatically selected.

4. Select the Issue type to create. The available issue types depend on the selected project, types included in the integration settings, and your Jira security permissions.

Fields for the selected issue type are displayed.

5. Enter or select the issue information.

Some fields may include default values. You can use, replace, or add to these values.

You can use Jira text formatting notation in fields. The formatting is applied when viewing issues in Jira. See the Jira help for information about text formatting notation.

6. Click Create.

The issue is added to Jira and attached to the Helix ALM item you created it from. Information about the issue is displayed on the Jira Issues tab in the Helix ALM item. See Working with Jira issues in Helix ALM.
