Adding custom project columns

If you are a main manager in a project, you are able to add custom columns to the project view.

1. Click More in the project view and choose Customise project.

The Customise project dialog box opens.

2. Select the Column management tab.

3. Click New.

The Create custom column dialog box opens.

4. Enter the column Name.

5. Select the column Type. For more information, see Custom project columns types.

6. To configure additional column options, select the Advanced tab.

7. Enter the Tooltip text to display.

Tooltip text is typically used to describe how the column is used.

8. To display a default value in a column when created new items, select Set default value when creating new items and enter or select the value.

9. Select an Inherit option. Main managers can specify if data in the column should be inherited when inserting new items.

Setting Description
Do not inherit No data is inherited when inserting new items.
Inherit when not empty New items will inherit the value from the item directly above it in the tree if that item contains a non-empty value. If there is no value to inherit, the default value is set. You can edit the default value when you customize columns.
Inherit when not empty (from parent) New items will inherit the value from the parent item in the hierarchy if that item contains a non-empty value. If there is no value to inherit, the default value is set. You can edit the default value when you customize columns.
Always inherit New items will inherit the value from the item directly above it in the tree.
Always inherit (from parent) New items will inherit the value from the parent item in the hierarchy.

10. Click OK to save the changes.

Note:  Newly created custom columns will be activated by default.
