Check out a file from P4 Server
When you need to work on a file stored on a P4 Server, check it out to make it writable and inform other users that you are working on it. The checked out file automatically added to a pending changelist for the current changes you are making to the project version.
If exclusive check outs are already configured on the P4 Server, files checked out from P4 One are automatically locked.

In the file view, double-click the file.
You can also right-click a file or folder and choose Check Out File.

In the Check Out File dialog box, select a check out option.
Check out option Description Check Out File Check out the file and make it writable so you can make changes. Other users can also check out the file and make changes. Check Out and Lock File Check out the file, make it writable, and prevent other users from submitting changes to it until you submit your changes or unlock the file. After you select an option, the file is checked out and opens in the associated application. The file is also added to a pending changelist named default on the Pending Changes tab.

Make any changes to the file and save it.
