Exporting to text files
You can export specific fields from issues, requirements, requirement documents, test cases, manual test runs, users,
You can import data exported to a text file into other Helix ALM projects or work with it in third-party applications.
If you want to export filters, reports, security groups, test configurations, or Workbook tasks to a text file, use the Helix ALM desktop client.
1. Make sure the items you want to export are displayed in the item list. Keep in mind that the selected filter is applied to the export.
If you are working in the Folders list, make sure the List tab is selected, Items is selected for Contents, and only one Item Type is selected in the Display Options pane.
2. To export all items displayed in the item list, click Actions and choose Export to Text.
To export specific items, select the items, click Actions, and choose Export to Text.
The Export to Text dialog box opens. The Selected Fields list contains the fields displayed in the item list columns. The Available Fields list contains other fields you can export for the item type.
3. To export additional fields, select the fields to export in the Available Fields list and click
to move them to the Selected Fields list.
Click Select All to select all available fields or Select None to clear the selection. You can also search for a field.
4. Click
to reorder the Selected Fields list. Fields in the resulting text file are displayed in the order in the list. You can search for a field in the list. You cannot reorder fields in the list if a search is applied.
5. Select any export Export Options.
- Include column headings includes the field names as a column heading row in the text file.
- Convert end-of-line characters to spaces converts carriage returns and line feeds to spaces.
- Delimiter inserts the selected character between fields.
- Date and number format specifies the date and number format to use in the exported items. Client locale uses the locale set on the computer running the Helix ALM Client and Server locale uses the locale set on the computer running the Helix ALM Server. Decimal points are always exported as periods.
6. Click Export.
The export starts and a progress dialog box is displayed. When the export is complete, the text file is downloaded or you are prompted to save it depending on the browser. The default filename is HelixALMTextExport - <CurrentDateTime>.txt.
