Configuring fields for creating Jira issues

Before you can save the Jira integration settings, you need to configure which Jira projects, issue types, and fields are available when users create Jira issues from Helix ALM. Some teams limit the available choices to make it easier for Helix ALM users to add relevant information when creating Jira issues.

When creating a Jira issue from Helix ALM, the Create Jira Issue dialog box opens. Users can select a Jira project to create the issue in, the issue type, and enter or select information for fields. See Creating Jira issues from Helix ALM.

When you configure the fields, you can also specify default values to display in string and text fields depending on the Helix ALM item type that the Jira issue is created from.

Jira integration must be enabled and a valid connection to a Jira instance must exist before you can configure fields. See Configuring Jira integration.

1. Choose Tools > Administration > Jira Integration.

The Jira Integration dialog box opens.

2. Click the Fields tab.

The available Jira projects, issues types, and fields depend on Jira security for the default user on the Connection tab.

3. Select the Jira projects to include in the Project list in the Create Jira Issue dialog box.

The list contains all projects in the instance specified on the Connection tab.

4. Select the Jira issue types to include in the Issue types list.

The list contains all issue types configured in all projects in the Jira instance. Sub-task issue types are not available.

5. Select the check box in the Show column for fields to include. You can select up to 15 fields.

The list contains all fields configured for all issue types in the instance. See Available Jira fields for information about the field types included in the list.

If you select a field that is required in Jira, it is also required when creating a Jira issue from Helix ALM.

6. To configure default values for string and text fields, click the Configure Default Values button in the Default Values column. See Configuring default values for Jira issue string and text fields.

Helix ALM item types that already have default values configured are displayed in the column.

7. Select a field and click Top, Move Up, Move Down, or Bottom to change the order that fields are displayed in the Create Jira Issue dialog box.

8. Click Save to save the changes.
