Configuring default values for Jira issue string and text fields

You can configure default values for string and text fields displayed in the Create Jira Issue dialog box. Users can change the default value when they create an issue.

For example, you may want to include information about the Helix ALM item that a Jira issue is created from or provide instructions about information users should enter in the field.

1. Choose Tools > Administration > Jira Integration.

The Jira Integration dialog box opens.

2. Click the Fields tab.

3. Click the Configure Default Values button next to a string or text field in the Default Values column.

The Configure Jira Issue Default Values dialog box opens.

4. Select a Helix ALM item type. The default value is displayed in the field when users create a Jira issue from the selected item type.

For example, if you select Manual Test Runs, the default text you enter is only displayed when you create a Jira issue from a Helix ALM manual test run.

5. Enter the Default value.

To include specific information about the Helix ALM item that the Jira issue is created from, insert a field code. A field code is a variable that represents a field value for the selected item type. When a Jira issue is created, the field code is automatically replaced with a specific field value from the Helix ALM item it is created from. To add a field code, click Insert Field Code. Select a code and click OK. See Field codes for a list of field codes.

When using field codes, keep in mind that Helix ALM multi-line text field formatting is converted to plain text and inline images are not included in Jira issues created from Helix ALM. You can use Jira text formatting notation in the default Jira issue field values or in Helix ALM multi-line text fields. The formatting is applied when viewing issues in Jira. See the Jira help for information about text formatting notation.

6. Click OK to save the changes.

You return to the Jira Integration dialog box.

7. Make any other changes.

8. Click OK to save the changes.
