Installing Defect Scribe

Note:  If you are upgrading Defect Scribe, see Upgrading Defect Scribe.

Before you install

  • Review the system requirements to make sure the computer you are installing on has the required space, memory, and other resources to run efficiently.
  • Make sure you are a member of the local Administrator group on the computer you are installing on. Without this access, you may not be able to record actions. Ask your system administrator for help.
  • Make sure the Helix ALM desktop client is installed on the computer.

Note:  You may be prompted to install required resources before installing Defect Scribe, such as Microsoft .NET Framework and Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio. You can download the installers for these components during Defect Scribe installation or from Microsoft.

Running the installer

The first time you install Defect Scribe, run the Helix ALM installer and select Install Defect Scribe in the integration options. Defect Scribe installation automatically starts after Helix ALM installation completes. See the Helix ALM installation help for information.

You can also manually run the installer if you canceled the Defect Scribe installation after Helix ALM installation completed or during an upgrade that requires installing other resources first.

To run the installer, double-click the installation file. The following installers are available on the Upgrade Helix ALM page:

  • 32-bit Defect Scribe—DefectScribe_x86.msi
  • 64-bit Defect Scribe—DefectScribe_x64.msi
