11.1 Using Portals to Write Client Programs

This chapter demonstrates some simple client programs using portals, then describes the architecture of the Portal Layer in the context of the examples. To make the examples concrete, we use the Berkeley Socket Adapter. Because of the pluggable architecture of the net library, it would not be difficult to rewrite the examples to use another adapter.
