2.6 Caching

2.6.1 Inserter Caching

Inserter caching is implemented by setting the field SQL_DESC_ARRAY_SIZE on the SQLHSTMT's APD (Application Parameter Descriptor). Inserter caching is fully supported by the ODBC access library; however, some drivers do not support the ODBC functionality upon which inserter caching is implemented.

If the driver does not support inserter caching, an error from the driver occurs, and the insertion is not performed. The usual error message is Optional feature not implemented.

2.6.2 Reader Caching

Reader caching is internally implemented by setting the SQL_ATTR_ROW_ARRAY_SIZE attribute on the SQLHSTMT being used. Reader caching is fully supported by the ODBC Access Library.

Increasing the cache parameter when producing an RWDBReader increases the number of rows fetched at a time, which can improve performance.

NOTE: Increasing the cache size may improve performance, depending on your application and driver.
