Saving dashboard page templates

You can save a dashboard page as a template to save the page and all charts on it as an XML file. You or other users can use this file to easily add a new dashboard page with the same charts, eliminating the need to re-create the charts and page appearance. See Adding dashboard pages from templates.

Saving dashboard pages as templates can be useful for:

  • Sharing a dashboard page and its charts with others who want to use a similar dashboard. For example, an organization may want to create a dashboard of standard charts to use for product management across multiple teams. Or, you may need help with a dashboard and can save it so you can send it to the Hansoft support team.

Note:  If you want to share a dashboard with someone else to view or edit, you can share the existing page instead of saving a template. See Sharing dashboard pages for viewing and editing.

  • Duplicating an existing dashboard page in the same project to use as a starting point for a new page.
  • Duplicating an existing dashboard page to use it in as is or with changes on a different Hansoft server or in a different Hansoft database. For example, you may create a dashboard page in a test environment, save the page as a template when you finish creating it, and then add it in your production environment.

Note:  You can also save individual charts as a template if you do not want to save the entire page. See Saving dashboard chart and item view templates.
