It is possible to customize the number of spaces or tabs that will be output for each level of indentation (XML only) using the option --indent (-i). Positive numbers indicate spaces, negative numbers tabs. The default is -1 i.e., a single tab character.
To retain compatibility with releases earlier than 2019.1, set this value to 4.
