HTML Tools preferences

HTML tools in P4V are enabled by default and are controlled by the P4V.Features.HTMLTools property. For details, see the topic Feature-related P4V properties in the P4 Server Administration Documentation.

Use HTML Tools preferences to control how HTML tabs run, restrict allowed sources, and manage browser-related behaviour.

Enable demo mode for HTML Tools

Enable demo mode to try HTML tool demonstrations for the current session.

  1. Go to:

    • Edit > Preferences (Windows)

    • P4V > Preferences (Mac)

  2. Click the HTML Tools tab.

  3. Select Run HTML Tools in demo mode.

  4. Click OK.

    Demo mode is enabled for the current session only.

Restrict allowed HTML tool URLs

Restrict HTML tools to run only from specific base URLs.

  1. Open Edit > Preferences and go to the HTML Tools tab.

  2. Select Only accept HTML Tools from.

  3. Click Add next to Permitted BaseURLs.

  4. Enter a base URL, then click OK.

  5. Repeat to add more URLs as needed.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Restart P4V.

Only HTML tools that match the permitted base URLs are accepted. Other URLs result in a security error.

  • http://www.toolserver.com/customtabs
  • http://www.toolserver.com/visualtools
  • http://www.toolserver.com/pages
  • http://www.toolserver.com/tabs
Local files are exempt from these restrictions.

Control HTML tool download behavior

Choose how P4V handles file downloads triggered from HTML tab pages.

  1. Go to Edit > Preferences.

  2. Select HTML Tools and click Advanced Settings.

  3. Select or clear Allow HTML tools to handle file downloads directly:

    • Cleared (default): P4V cancels the download and passes it to the system browser.

      Downloads generated in JavaScript (blob URLs) cannot be opened by the system browser, so they are silently cancelled when this option is cleared. Select this option to allow them to complete.

    • Selected: P4V allows the embedded browser to complete the download. Files are saved to the system default download location without prompting.

  4. Click OK.

Download handling follows your selected preference.

When the Allow HTML tools to handle file downloads directly option is cleared, P4V forwards HTTP/HTTPS downloads to the system browser; when selected, all downloads are handled by P4V's embedded browser. Administrators can override this setting using the P4V.HTMLTools.HandleDownloads property. When overridden, the option is disabled in the UI.

HTML tab file system access

HTML tab pages can now request access to the file system.

When an HTML app prompts for a file location, P4V grants the request and displays the system file picker. This behavior is always enabled.

Manage HTML Tools cookies

Delete cookies stored by HTML Tools.

  • Go to Preferences > HTML Tools > Advanced Settings.

  • Select Delete all cookies.

Additional information

Your administrator can override the allowed URL list using the P4VJS.HTMLAllowList property.

Use Copy to Clipboard to share a formatted list of URLs if you need approval.
