Upgrade P4V

You can upgrade P4V and its associated client applications: P4 Admin, P4 Merge, and the P4V command-line (P4V CLI).

Windows

To upgrade P4V on Windows, download the latest installer and do the following:

  1. Double-click the downloaded .exe file to start the installer.

  2. On the Select Applications screen, make sure all applications are selected.

    To install P4V in a different location, click Change and select an appropriate directory.

  3. Click Next.

  4. On the Client Configuration screen, enter:

    1. Server: The P4 Server address provided by your administrator.

    2. User Name: Your user name.

    3. Text Editing Application: Accept the default or click Browse to select another editor.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Click Upgrade on the Ready to Upgrade the Apps screen. Click Yes if prompted to allow changes.

  7. When installation is complete, the Start P4V check box is selected by default. Click Exit to automatically open P4V.

Linux

P4V for Linux is distributed as a .tgz archive. To upgrade, download the new archive and extract it. This creates a new version specific directory that includes P4V, P4 Merge, P4 Admin, and the P4V command-line (P4V CLI).

If you added the previous version to your PATH, update your PATH variable to reference the new directory.

macOS

To upgrade P4V on macOS, download the latest installer, double-click the downloaded .dmg file, and drag p4vc, p4v, p4merge, and p4admin to the Applications folder. When you drag the updated applications into the Applications folder, a confirmation dialog appears asking whether you want to Replace the existing versions. You can replace each application individually, or select Apply to All to update all applications at once.
