Manage configurables and properties
Manage configurables
The Configurables tab allows you to view and set the value of configurables and environment variables by double-clicking that row.
The P4 Admin Configurables tab filters configurables by any string you type in the Search configurable name and description field. You can also Filter by category whether or not you also use a search string.
The Set column displays:
-
Circle with a diagonal line
to indicate the value is set before P4 Server started, and the value cannot be changed. -
Check mark
to indicate a value has been set. -
No symbol to indicate the value can be changed. If you change the value, the check mark appears.
Double-click any row to:
-
Read that configurable's description.
-
See whether it affects the server, client, proxy, or a combination of those.
-
Link to technical documentation about that configurable from the Configurables in the P4 CLI Reference.
-
See the recent history of that configurable's setting.
-
Set the value, if it is not prohibited with the
symbol.
When you can set the value, you can also provide a comment:
For some configurables, the New value field allows you to choose from the set of valid values:
To unset the configurable, make the New value field be empty.
Manage properties

Setup Message of the Day (MOTD) in P4V
The Message of the Day (MOTD) feature displays important, time-sensitive announcements, such as scheduled maintenance or server availability updates when you log in for the first time each day.
After the initial login, the MOTD does not appear again for the remainder of the day. It supports Markdown formatting for clearer communication. If you leave P4V open overnight and your authentication ticket expires, the MOTD is shown again upon login only if the content has changed since the last display. To view the MOTD at any time, navigate to Help > Show Message of the Day.
To use the MOTD feature in P4V, ensure that you are using version P4V 2025.4 or later.
Here is an example of how to set an MOTD:
p4 property -a -n P4V.Features.MessageOfTheDay -v "# This is the Message of the Day! - The P4 Server will be unavailable between 1:00 AM and 3:00 AM PST on December 20 for maintenance."
To learn more about MOTD, see Feature-related P4V properties in the P4 Server Administration Documentation.
