Validating test case steps

If test case steps contain errors, an invalid steps message is displayed on the test case Steps tab. Errors in steps usually occur if incorrect syntax is used in text view or references to test case steps or attachments are not found. You must correct any errors before generating manual test runs.

1. Review any errors on the test case Steps tab when you are editing a test case.

  • In text view, errors are displayed in red. Mouse over the text for information about the error.

  • In grid view, the line that contains the error is highlighted.

2. Correct the errors.

3. Click the Validate Steps button. This button is only available if steps contain errors or if you made changes in text view.

Helix ALM validates the steps. Depending on the selected view, one of the following messages may be displayed.

Message Description

Continue editing and validating the steps until they are correct.
