Editing images

You can edit images in multi-line text fields. For example, you may want to crop an image, draw an arrow or rectangle to highlight a specific area, or add text for additional explanation.

You can also edit an image after taking a screen capture or attaching an image file to an item. You can only edit attached images before saving an item.

You can resize images by pixels or percentage.

1. If the image is in a field, select the image and click .

If the image is attached to the item, click next to it.

The Edit Image dialog box opens.

Note:  You can also edit screen captures before attaching them. See Capturing screens.

2. Use the slider at the bottom of the dialog box to zoom in and out on the image.

You can also press Ctrl and scroll the mouse wheel to zoom.

3. Click a toolbar button to make any changes to the image.

Select an object to change its properties, move it, or resize it. To delete an object, select it and press Backspace or Delete. --
Crop the image to only the selected area. Select the area and click Crop. --
Add text. Font size, color, and style
Draw on the image. Line width and color
Draw a straight line. Line width and color
Draw a rectangle. Border width, border color, and fill color
Draw an ellipse. Border width, border color, and fill color
Draw a triangle. Border width, border color, and fill color
Draw a line with an arrow. Color
Rotate the image left 90 degrees. --
Rotate the image right 90 degrees. --
Undo the last action. --
Redo the last undone action. --
Reset to the original image. --

4. Click Save.

The updated image is inserted in the field or attached to the item.

Tip:  To rename an edited image attachment, click Rename next to it. The Rename Attachment dialog box opens. Enter a new Attachment name and click Rename. You can only rename attachments before saving the item. Do not include the file extension in the new attachment name.

5. Make any additional changes and save the item.

Resizing images

If you resize an image in the field, the quality may be affected. The original image size is preserved if you open it in the Edit Image dialog box before saving the item.

To resize an image, select it and drag a corner.

You can also resize an image using specific dimensions or percentage.

1. Select the image and click . You can also select the image and click on the formatting toolbar and choose Edit Image/Diagram Size.

The Edit Image Size dialog box opens.

2. Click % or Pixels.

3. Enter the Width and Height.

4. Select Maintain aspect ratio to avoid adjusting the image out of proportion.

5. Click Save to save the changes.
