Renaming field labels
You can rename field labels to match your team’s terminology. Keep the following in mind:
- Each label has a built-in field code. Field codes do not change if you rename labels. For example, if you rename Disposition (%DISP%) to Substatus, you still use %DISP% for the Substatus field code. See Field codes.
- Columns in the project database are not renamed.
1. Choose Tools > Administration > Rename Field Labels.
The Rename Field Labels dialog box opens.
Fields marked with an asterisk have short and long field names. The short name is used to fit labels without truncating them, such as static text in item windows. The long name is used in areas where displayed text can be truncated if needed, such as in filters, reports, and columns. Use the same terminology for the short and long field name pairs. For example, if you rename Version to Account, make sure you also change Version Found to Account Found.
2. Select an Item type. The fields displayed depend on the selected type.
3. Select the field to rename and click Edit.
The Edit Field Label Value dialog box opens.
4. Enter the Renamed Value. You can enter up to 32 characters.
5. Click OK.
You return to the Rename Field Labels dialog box.
6. Click OK to save the changes.
The project is updated with the new field labels.
