Overriding workflows
You can override a workflow to force an item to move to a resulting state. For example, an item may not immediately move to the resulting state if it is assigned to multiple users and only the assigned users can enter events. If one of the users is out of the office or busy with other work, you may want to override the workflow.
You can only override workflows if you have security permissions to override the workflow for the selected item type and the item meets one of the following criteria.
- The item is in an open state that has an assignment rule configured to only allow assigned users to enter events.
- The item is in an open state that allows any user to enter events and has linked items using a parent/child definition with workflow restrictions that allow the item to be closed.
- The item is in a closed state that allows any user to enter events and has linked items using a definition with workflow restrictions that allow the item to be re-opened.
1. Select the item to override the workflow for and click Edit.
2. Choose Activities > Override Workflow.
Valid events for the current state are enabled.
3. Choose Workflow and then select an event.
The item moves to the resulting state for the selected event. A workflow override entry is added to the item Workflow tab.
