Capturing screens
You can capture, edit, and attach a screenshot to an item from Helix ALM. For example, if an unexpected error is displayed when you are performng a manual test run, you can capture and attach a screenshot of the error at the same time you add the new issue. You can also capture and insert screenshots in multi-line text fields.
Note: Make sure you are using a browser that supports screen capture in Helix ALM. See the list of supported browsers.
1. To capture a screen and insert it in a multi-line text field, move the cursor to the location in the field where you want to insert the image and click . The Insert Image dialog box opens.
To capture a screen and attach to an item:
- Documents, requirements, test cases, and manual test runs—Click the Files tab.
- Issues—Click the Details tab and scroll to the Attachments area.
Tip: You can also capture a screen and attach it to a step or expected result in a test case, or a step in a manual test run. See Capturing screens to attach to test case steps and Capturing screens to attach to manual test run steps.
2. Click Capture Screen.
You are prompted by the browser to share your screen. See the browser help for information about sharing your screen with other applications.
Note: If you are using Helix ALM in Microsoft Edge 17 or 18 and want a screen capture of a minimized window in Edge, you must bring that window to the front before you can capture it.
3. Give the browser permission to access the screen to capture.
The screen is captured and the Edit Image dialog box opens.
4. Make any changes to the image. For example, you may want to crop it to focus on a specific area, draw an arrow or rectangle to direct other team members to specific information, or add text for additional explanation. See Editing images.
5. Click Save.
If you are inserting the screen capture in a field, you return to the Insert Image dialog box. Continue with step 6.
If you are only attaching the screen capture to the item, the capture is attached. Skip the remaining steps. You can view, edit, rename, download, and delete image attachments. See Attaching files.
6. Enter the Width and Height to resize the image. You can reize the image percentage or pixels. Select Maintain aspect ratio to avoid adjusting the image out of proportion.
7. Click Insert.
The image is inserted in the field.
You can edit and resize images. To edit an image, select it in the field and click . See Editing images. To resize an image, select it and drag a corner. You can also select it and click to enter the dimensions/percentage.
