Creating test run sets

A test run set is a group of related test runs. When you generate test runs, you can add the new test runs to a test run set. When testing multiple builds in parallel, test run sets allow you to report on each test initiative and determine the current status.

Tip:  While test run sets are similar to folders, the advantage is that the test run set is displayed in the main area when viewing and editing test runs. Users must click the Folders tab to view the folders a test run is stored in.

When deciding on the test run sets to create, consider how you want to view information in test run reports to monitor progress. Think about the information you will need at the end of each phase to determine if you are ready to move on to the next phase. Refer to the schedule in the test plan and create a test run set for each milestone and then create any additional sets that are needed.

1. Choose Tools > List Values > Test Run Set Values. You can also click Configure in the Generate Test Runs dialog box.

The Setup List Items dialog box opens.

2. Click Add.

The Add List Item dialog box opens.

3. Enter a test run set name.

4. Select a Style to change how the test run set is displayed in the Test Runs list.

The Style list includes all styles available in the project. Select <default> to display the value without formatting. You may also be able to add a new style or work with all styles. See Adding field value styles and Configuring field value styles.

5. Click OK.

You return to the Setup Test Run Names dialog box.

6. Select a test run set and click Top, Move Up, Move Down, or Bottom to change the display order.

You may want to move the most frequently used test run sets to the top of the list.

7. Click Sort to sort the rest run sets in ascending or descending order.

8. Click OK to save the changes.
