Setting general options

You can set general options to specify how many actions and screenshots are included in results, configure Defect Scribe to automatically reconnect to Windows applications, select the default file type to use when emailing results, and enable SSL encryption for Google Chrome HTTPS support.

1. Choose Tools > Options. You can also click Options on the Results dialog box.

The Options dialog box opens.

2. Select any options.

Option Use to:
Only include results for the last number of minutes Limit actions in the results to only those captured in the specified number of minutes before recording stops. This option is helpful for capturing more manageable results from complex manual tests. For example, you may want to limit the results if you often run tests that take a long time to complete so only actions performed immediately before an error occurs are included. This can help eliminate the need to remove unnecessary information before saving or sharing results.
Only include screenshots for the last number of actions Limit the number of screenshots in the results. The default value is 25. Selecting this option does not limit the number of actions that can be performed or recorded. All actions are included in the results as text, but only screenshots for the last specified number of actions are included to reduce the results file size. For example, if you set the limit to 20 actions and record 25 actions, the results include screenshots for the last 20 actions performed, but not for the first five actions.
Automatically reconnect applications when closed and reopened Automatically reconnect to Windows applications that are closed and then reopened in the same recording session.
Default file type to email Specify the default file type for reports that are automatically attached to emails when emailing results. Recorded steps are always included in emails sent from Defect Scribe. Results reports include the recorded steps and screenshots and can be generated in PDF, Word, and HTML (.zip folder) format. Select <None> to exclude results reports from emails.
Allow unsupported browsers as target Include Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox in the list of targets when recording. These browsers are no longer supported because of architectural changes, but you can still use older versions if needed. See the list of supported browser versions.
Use SSL encryption for Chrome extension communication
Always use SSL encryption when recording in Google Chrome. When enabled, a self-signed certificate is automatically added to the browser Trusted Root Certification Authorities store the first time you record against a web application in Chrome. SSL encryption is required for Chrome HTTPS support.

Only clear this option if your company enforces trusted certificate authority restrictions and you do not want Defect Scribe to add root certificates to the certificate store. The root certificate is automatically removed from the store when SSL encryption is disabled. You must close all instances of Chrome and restart Defect Scribe for changes to take effect.

Not available on Windows Vista.
