Viewing local copies of source files

Note:  Source file actions and options depend on the source control application you are using. The following information applies to Surround SCM and Helix Versioning Engine. If you use a different application, refer to its documentation for information.

View a source file attached to an item to open the local copy in the Helix ALM viewer or associated application.

If you use Git, GitHub, or Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS), see Viewing Git, GitHub, and Team Foundation Server files attached to items for information about viewing files.

1. Click the Source Files tab when you are editing an item. The Source Files tab is on the Files tab in requirements, documents, test cases, and test runs.

2. Select the file and click View Local Copy.

The View Files dialog box opens.

3. Select a View option.

  • Helix ALM Viewer opens the file in the internal Helix ALM viewer.
  • Registered application opens the file in the default application for the file type. You may be prompted to select the application to use.

4. Select Only show dialog if Shift key is pressed to only display the dialog box again if the Shift key is pressed. Select this option to always use the same options when viewing source files.

5. Click OK to view the file.
